Thanks.
Yes I had spotted him,  but there were quite a few Richard Jones from the same village.
I discounted it because the  age isn`t right, also he always used the  his full name with Lewis  and the story about the army.  He had a friend  William Jones , same age who also joined up and I found him in Windsor barracks in 1881, but no Richard
It`s one to look at though.
James S Gregg seems to be the right one though.

As Evan H Owen was in London as a linen draper in 1871, working in a large store , I think this probably is the same Richard Jones.

There is a James Chas Wall in Hoxton in 1881. He is a wood engraver, age 20 but born Hoxton
Others in the household are:
His father also James Wall, age 49, but he is born in Burlescombe, Devon. His occupation is Chairmaker employing 1 boy.
His mother Mary age 51 born Pentonville Middlesex.
His sisters: Mary age 24 occ milliner, born Hoxton, and Alice F age 15 scholar also born Hoxton.
So maybe James Charles was mistaken about his birthplace and muddled it with his father's and being a wood engraver, he could progress to being a sculptor.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott
