Sarah - somebody
« on: Tuesday 05 May 15 10:46 BST (UK) »
To close out an outstanding thread I am trying to find the birth record for Norah Shinnick, or at least that is the name that appears on her 1894 marriage record to Edward Delahunt in Preston.
After searching through the various census returns on several sites for her and her family we have found the family name transcribed as CHINVECK, THENNICK, SHINNICK, SHERRICK, CHINIVECK, SCHUMECK, & SHINNECK the only thing they seem to agree on is that she was born in Abersychan around 1876 the daughter of David & Catherine an Irish immigrant family.
In the 1871 & 1881 returns the family are living in Trevethin and then in 1891 in Fishwick, Lancashire, help from anybody with a good sense of humour would be appreciated.
Thanks - GedB

the only thing they seem to agree on is that she was born in Abersychan around 1876
1881 Norah is age 8 so that would be born c1873

her younger brother David's birth was registered in 1876 (he was age 5 in 1881)

Thanks PaulineJ but according to the 1871 census return she had four elder sisters, Catherine, Julia, Ellen & Bridget all born in Abersychan and again all apparently lost in translation, I will though start checking to see if there is any link to that name - GedB

You could well be right there Rosie, but as usual the returns give varying dates with the 1891 return showing a birth year of 1876. I have tried a +/- of five years either way and still cannot seem to find anything - GedB

Absolutely spot on thank you very much, although with another spelling making it eight different versions I am wondering if there is some sort of record there.
Thank You very much - GedB

You'd have to go some to beat my "IMPLETON" family - gggm was Lucy Impleton

I have found anything from IMPEY to BUMBLETON with 22 variations in between - it has almost driven me around the twist

Glad you found her - I live just up the road from Pontypool   :)
