He is an aircraftsman in the RAF. Not WW1 but more likely WW2 era or later.

1 Apr 1918- The Royal Air Force and Women's Royal Air Force are formed.
Prior to that date, it was called the Royal Flying Corps. The picture that you posted was post
1 April 1918, attached is a picture of the OR's uniform pre 1918.
