Missing Percivals
« on: Tuesday 05 May 15 18:44 BST (UK) »
I have a small branch of my family that appear to have gone missing. There are some quite unusual records and I‘m looking for some fresh ideas for a way forwards.

I have the following family unit in 1901, living at Beckenham Road, Penge :-

Henry James PERCIVAL b1873 in Woolwich, Kent/London
Ada Emily PERCIVAL (nee SHARMAN) b1876 in Taunton, Somerset (although stated as Weston elsewhere)
(These two were married in Q4 1898 in Chelsea, London)

Bessie PERCIVAL b23 Nov 1898 (from baptism record in 1905) in Penge, Kent
Edith PERCIVAL b1901 (under one month on census) in Penge, Kent

The only record I can find between 1901 and 1911 is Bessie’s baptism in 1905 where they are living in Notting Hill. Ada’s parents live less than a mile from there.

So, in 1911 I can find Henry living with daughter Edith at 63 Forest Lane, Stratford. Still saying that he’s married with two children. I can (I think!) find Bessie living at the Church Of England Home For Waits & Strays in Shipton Under Wychwood, Oxfordshire. No sign of Ada anywhere!

On this evidence something tragic has happened and I would really like to find out some good news about Bessie in particular or any of the family in general.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Peter

I like your thinking Heywood, but I think I can see Joseph GARNER marrying Ada Elizabeth HORWOOD in Q1 1910 in Poplar.

I really do like your thinking though....

Oh what a shame - but on the other hand - maybe not!
Have you tried hospitals or asylums?

Hi dawnsh

I've looked at the possible Morbey marriage for Bessie. It does look the most likely of the dozen or so possibles. However, by using the Electoral Rolls and tracing that Bessie and Arthur Morbey I can see that she died in 1970 and her date of birth given at the time 27 Oct 1895 is three years out. I shall work my way through the others.... and then the same process for Edith.

Thanks

Peter

Good idea Heywood, I hadn't considered that but it's a likely scenario. I shall have to track down patient records, if any!

Hi - the name MORBEY/MOREBY/MORBY is causing me problems. I have/had relative with this surname living in PENGE in the 1950's. Don't know how to spell the name but know that Gerald lived in Oakfield Road , Penge at that time. Help!!!
