67th Anti Tank Rgt RA War Diarys
« on: Thursday 07 May 15 18:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the the war diary's for the 67th Anti-tank regt RA from 1943-1945?

I have my great grandfathers medals and service record and i'm trying to piece about his whereabouts during his time in the war.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Lee

I only have 1939 to 1941 and thick one it is too with circa 500 pages.

There's four war diaries you may be interested in that I've listed below. If the Archives is too far for you to visit in person give me a shout

WO 169/9623 67 Regiment 1943 Jan.- Dec.
WO 169/15999 67 Anti-Tank Regiment 1944 Apr.- June
WO 170/1038 Anti-Tank Regiments: 67 Regt 1944 Jan.- Mar., July - Dec.
WO 170/4691 Anti-Tank Regiment: 67 Regiment 1945 Jan.-Nov.

Cheers
Andy

Hi Drew,

Thanks for your post.

Thats alot of pages!

Basically he was with the 67th Anti tank regt from Aug 43 until the end of the war so i'd like a copy of the diarys from then to piece together his exact whereabouts.

Do you know how many pages it would be for these dates?

Perhaps next time you are there you would be kind enough to maybe have a look and see how big a job it will be?

Many thanks

Lee

In short you pay for what you get and the more pages, whilst more money, means more detail so that potentially is a good thing.

As a rough guide I say on average work on 200 to 400 pages per diary. It is though impossible to say without ordering the files and then copying them as they vary so much. Whilst the diary I have is quite thick bear in mind it does cover over two years so that would equate to less than 250 pages per year.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the info. Would it be possible the next time you are there to see how big each document is   please?
Aug 43 to Nov 45

Many thanks

It's unlikely I would have time Lee - You have to order the files and you can only order three at a time, these can take between 40 and 60 minutes to arrive. Because my time there is so limited and it's a 400 mile round trip for me I like to keep a steady flow of files coming so I'm not sat waiting for files and my day is as productive as possible.

A way you could get a rough idea is as the National Archives for a quote. They normally tell you how many units there are (unit=page) and they charge around £1.20 I think per page
The only thing to be aware of is once they withdraw the file for estimating it is removed from the public domain for around 6 week IIRC so if you did decide to ask someone to copy them for you once you get an estimate there would probably be a delay.

Here's a link to ask for estimates. Just copy and paste the file refs into each box. Tick Copy all pages and in Estimates click Digital Images.

Hi Andy,

Thanks again for all the info.

How often do you go down there as thats a heck of a trip for you!

I think i would like the copied Aug 43 - Aug 44 please as to get the whole lot in one go is going to be expensive.
Then at a later date i can get the rest if thats ok?

Cheers

Lee

I only go once or twice a month depending on my rota at work. I only copy complete files by the file ref rather than dates.
I'll send you a private message
