When cenus' are taken it is not only people living in the household but visitors or even the coalman delivering coal would be included  ;D

What is she down as  ???

Annie

Not sure why the coalman would have spent the night there though?

The requirements for being included on a census form were that you spent overnight there,so maybe she went back home overnight to look after someone?

Thanks for that carol as I was unaware. Maybe that is why so many people are unaccounted for ???

I always thought it to be a person "stock take" so they had everyones names as the coalman wouldn't be recorded at home if he was delivering my coal  ::) ;D

It's also why some people were recorded twice, as they were recorded incorrectly at their usual home and then correctly at the place where they were spending the night. As the census papers were delivered a few days before census night, some people probably filled them in early with the names of all the family. Then, if one of them decided to spend the night elsewhere, they would be recorded there as a visitor!
