Missing death record Mary Pay, buried 29 Dec. 1846.
« on: Monday 11 May 15 10:29 BST (UK) »
2 of my great-grandfather's sisters died within a few weeks of each other in 1846. I had thought maybe infectious disease, but having acquired one death certificate, it seems that the younger one had suffered from chronic bronchitis, although she died of an unspecified fever. (They were aged 17 and 20 when they died.)
Problem is that I cannot find the GRO record of the other death. The parish record says "abode Chillenden, crossed out and Canterbury written in, so I guess that she died in Canterbury, but was brought home for burial, and that between the two, the death was not registered. This may be the end of the trail, but I thought I would just put it to the experts.
She was Mary Pay, buried 29 Dec. 1846.

Do you have Mary on census in 1841  :-\

Quite a while before the burial, but have you discounted this one?

Deaths Sep 1846
PAY    Mary
Portsea I    7   90

There is a Mary age 20 living in Portsea in 1841 born in County.

My Mary Pay was born in Kent in 1826, in fact she was buried on her 20th birthday, which is rather poignant.

Sorry, I should have said thanks for looking her up for me. There does seem to be a completely different group of Pays in West Sussex and the Portsmouth area.

I looked at Mary Page (Pay regularly gets mis-transcribed) but the only one in C'bury in 1841 is still there in 1851. Not conclusive of course, as people move in and out.

That cant be the one that Cath found the 1846 death for!

Therefore  the1846 death may still be your Mary Pay...

I wondered about that one too, I see the page has now been typed out, presumably the hand written page was worse for wear. There are lots of chances for it to have been misread or misheard I think.
