Eliza Howard bn 1815 St. Martins Colchester
« on: Tuesday 12 May 15 13:38 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace her parents.

Baptism 11 Jun 1815 Colchester, Essex, England, stating parents as Robert & Ann.  I dont have any sibling as yet.

Married 1834 Ardleigh to William Cook then to William Appleby.

How can I trace her parents?

Thanks

also one of the witnesses on the marriage for the  eliza at ardleigh marriage is a  susanna howard possibly a sister of eliza .
have you definite proof the bpt and marriage are for the same eliza howard your looking for .
so far can,t find marriage for Robert and ann .

It probably is the right one as Robert and Ann also had a daughter Caroline born 1822. There is a Caroline Howard buried in Ardleigh in 1830 aged 8yrs.
A Robert Howard born c1788 buried 1837.

Looks like Ann married again in Ardleigh.
21st February, 1846
George  Howard, single, no father listed
Ann Howard, widow, father John Smith
both of the parish
witnesses
John Smith
John Whent

In the 1851 census George and Ann are next door to the Applebys.

George Howard buried 1st April, 1860 aged 49yrs.

The 1861 census gives Anns birthplace as St. James, Colchester, so found the following baptism at said church.

Ann Smith
March 18th, 1792
to John and Hannah.

In Ardleigh
4th January, 1787
John Smith, widower
Hannah Godbowl, single
both of the parish
witnesses
George ???
Johnson Harris

Yes that's the baptism record I have.

I have noticed Susanna too.

Yes, both baptism and marriage are of the same Eliza

Thanks

So Ann marries Robert Howard and then a George Howard?  At least she kept her surname!

Thank you ever so much; how on earth do you find these things so easy; I have been looking for 18 months since I found Eliza's info.

With the above info (thank you) I have just found someone on Ancestry; that has a Robert & Ann Smith on their tree; including Susanna the witness on Eliza's marriage certificate.  But they are omitting Eliza :-/

So I have asked them for some guidance too :)
