Hi Kneegood , welcome to RootsChat ,

I've split your post off from the other topic as it didn't seem to have anything to do with the families mentioned there.

Hello  :)

Allowing for phonetic spelling variations brings up more children for George & Mary.  The following records are all from family search but the original Old Parish Register entries should be available to download from http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/  Don't expect much more than names, date and place, but if you are very lucky, they may give further information such as George's occupation.  The early census records for Sherriffs, various spellings, in Banff show a reccuring theme of shoe making.  Does this fit in with what you know so far about your family?

1783 William, son of George Shirras & Mary Christy born 8 July, bpt. 13 July, Banff
1783 George Shirras & Mary Christy married 18 Dec Banff
1784 George, son of George Shirras & Mary Christy born 21, bpt. 22 Dec, Banff
1789 James, son of George Shirras & Mary Christie born 13 May, bpt. 9 June, Banff
1801 Alexander, son of George Shirras & Mary Christie born 28 Aug, bpt. 11 Oct, Banff

1841 census Banff, Banffshire, Old Market Place
George Sherriffs / 80 / Shoemaker / Banff
Jane Sherriffs / 40 / Banff
James Maxwell / 50 / Merchant / outside County
Margaret Youngson / 20 / outside County
