Eodem die Alexr Penman lately come to this Congreg
ation cloathed with a sufficient testimonial from Dunferm
line had a son (born to him of his wife Janet Peter) baptis
ed and named Alexr

- Eodem die = Latin for "on the same day"

- cloathed = clothed, in the sense of "equipped" or "supplied"

- testimonial = a written testimonial from his previous parish stating that he was a church member  and not under church discipline for any wrong-doing

I wonder if during your research for the Penman family if you may have come across a George or David Penman.  George would be the great grandfather of the famous author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, who wrote "Anne of Green Gables."  Both David and George ended up living and dying on Prince Edward Island, Canada.  George supposedly was a pay master and served with Lord Rollo.  He died in 1804 and was supposedly born around the 1740's.  Hope to hear back from you.

Thank you,
Mary Cudmore
