John BRIERCLIFFE (aka BRITCLIFFE)
« on: Thursday 14 May 15 01:56 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I'm doing more research into the above ancestor as I have just found another snippet of information:

He has been found  in the Poll Books.
John Briercliffe in the UK, Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893

Name:    John Briercliffe
Poll Year:    1836
Hundred:    Salford
Division:    Southern
Parish or Rectory:    Pilsworth
County:    Lancashire.

His wife is Hannah nee Belfield. 4 children are Mary, James, Betty (Elizabeth) and Charlotte.

Death of Charlotte
Forenames: Charlotte
Surname: BRIERCLIFF
Abode: Mancr
Day: 5
Month: 10
Year: 1834
Age: 2
Relationship: dau
Related Title:
Related Forenames: John & Hannah
Related Surname: Briercliff
Place: Manchester
Church: Collegiate Church

Hannah was living with Elizabeth? in Deansgate Manchester on 1841 Census and Hannah is again living with her daughter Elizabeth who by then was married to William Lowe on the 1851 Census.  Elizabeth was still alive in 1881 and is with her daughter Hannah.

I have been trying to find his death for quite a few years now. Is there any way of finding any more information on John Briercliffe/Britcliffe after this point at all from any records or poor houses etc.  Kindest regards and many thanks Dianna in Sydney

Married by Banns by: Wm. Hodgson Officiating Minister
Register: Marriages 1825 from the Bishops Transcripts, Page 127, Entry 380

oops didn't read that properly you are looking for his death date

Have you ruled out John Briercliffe that died 1839 in Bolton which is part of the Manchester area? I am assuming Charlotte was his last born and that he was dead before the 1841 census?

Are you sure that John Birercliffe in Salford is your one because a John Salford dies there in 1859 and I think maybe it is him rather than your one?

Hi We are not sure when John was born as there are no records that show his actual age the closest I can guess would be born close to his wifes being 1806.  There was one birth found for a JOHN BRIARCLIFF in 1802 in Manchester to a James Briarcliff and Hanna Speakman.  I have all 4 of his childrens birth under BRITCLIFFE in Rochdale from 1826.  As to his age not sure.  Not much to go on I know that's why I was happy to discover him in the Poll Books which is new. Hi whiteout7 Re

Have you ruled out John Briercliffe that died 1839 in Bolton which is part of the Manchester area? I am assuming Charlotte was his last born and that he was dead before the 1841 census? I think I did check the age of the guy in 1839 and it did not fit.  Yes Charlotte died in 1834 from memory in Manchester

Are you sure that John Birercliffe in Salford is your one because a John Salford dies there in 1859 and I think maybe it is him rather than your one?  Not sure who John Salford is???  I can only think that John BRIERCLIFFE died in Salford as his wife is living there in Deansgate in 1841 with her daughter Elizabeth.

Not sure of anything at the moment.  I still have to check on a John Briercliffe who was transported for Manslaughter but that was in Lincolnshire don't know if there maybe a connection.

From memory the two deaths in Bolton area one is an infant and one was too old.  Thanks for your time and input.  Regards Dianna
