My 2G grandfather was named John, James or Charles Pinnix/Pinnox/Pinnocks. He married my 2G grandmother, Jane Oakes, in Catholic Chapel, Gosport, in 1861. They had 2 children before he died (no death record found for him). Jane remarried (in total she outlived 4 husbands) in Alverstoke in 1867.
John, James and Charles were the various names that either he or someone else gave for him in various census, birth and marriage records -
1860 marriage to Jane Oakes - John Pinnix, 25, name likely to have been given by John himself, illiterate. Father Thomas Pinnix, Labourer
1861 census - James Pinnicks, 26, born Portsmouth, Hampshire, name and birth place could have been given by either James or Jane, neither of them literate
1863 birth of daughter Mary Jane Pinnix - James Pinnix, name given by Jane, illiterate
1865 birth of son Charles Pinnocks (Haines) - Charles Pinnocks, name given by Jane, illiterate
I am trying to trace a death record for John/James/Charles, also a record for his birth and census records for 1841 and 1851. I have full access to census records, but wondering if any one can pass a new eye over this for me.
One possibility I have come up with is the following family from Hambledon, which doesn't fit with his stated birth place of Portsmouth. If this is the correct family, I can find a baptism for James on 30 Jan 1831, Hambledon, parents Thomas Pinnocks and Jane Evans or Eams.
