Charlotte Katharine Jocelyn Almond

Wondering if anyone can help?  She is meant to be living at " Tarrifside Edzell" In around 1918. I know she served as an orderly in the Great War with the Scottish Womens Hospitals. Most likely came from a wealthy household. Many thanks Alan

Hello SWH1,

Katherine certainly does appear to have come from a prominent family.  This pdf book is about her father and his achievements.  looking at it briefly, some family background can be found in chapter XI, page 111.

what sort of info are you looking for?

I can see her marriage in London in 1923 to a Reverend and her death - also in London in 1925 ( giving a birth date of 1893). are you looking for parentage?

Hi,

Her birth is showing on SP, as the book states: 1892 Midlothian.  From the biography her parents were Hely Hutchison Almond and Eleanora Frances Tristram, daughter of Almond’s first cousin, Canon Tristram of Durham.  They were married at St Mary Le Bow Church, Durham 29 April 1876.

I have had a look at her birth certificate on Scotlandspeople for you. She was born on 30th Sep 1892 at North Esk Lodge Musselburgh. Her father was Hely Hutchison Almond, headmaster of Loretto School ( which is still in existence) and Eleonora Frances nee Tristram who had married in Durham on 29th April 1876. She appears in the 1901 census as Charlotta C J Almond ( Ancestry) still living at North Esk Lodge with some of her siblings. Head of household was her brother George Hely Hutchison Almond who went on to be a medical doctor and was killed in WW1.
Hely Hutchison Almond died in 1903 and newspaper reports at the time say he was 71 years old and had been headmaster for 41 years. Eleonora died in 1946 in Weston Super Mare. One report of her death says she was the daughter of Rev Canon H B Tristram of Durham.
There is a lot about the family in the British Newspaper Archive.

Plenty of information out there about her parentage, SWH1, but not so much about her personally.  It's usually the other way round!  These links may give a little more background:
