Knock Cemetery - Cuilitinny- Thady Kelly
« on: Tuesday 19 May 15 03:07 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am a beginner in genealogy.  I think i'm doing pretty well with it, but finding Irish records is way beyond my capabilities right now. I am trying to get a clear picture of a gravesite and a couple headstones from the Knock Cemetery (old section) in Knock, Co. Mayo.  I found 2 pictures of the graves, but they are poor quality and taken from a poor angle.

Is there a site other than findagrave.com or irishgraveyards.ie that has pictures of cemeteries in Co. Mayo, Ireland?  or if someone lives in the area and could possibly take a picture I would be very greatful.

The plots I am looking for is in the old section plot 185-B and 186-B.  The names on them should be Kelly and possibly Carney. I am looking for info on Mary (Nee Lyons) Kelly and Thady Kelly.  Thady's mother's name is Mary (Nee Carney) Kelly, Father is John Kelly.  They lived in house 3 Cuillitinny, Knock North, county Mayo in 1911 and 1901.  Thady kelly was not on the 1911 census, but was still living (can't find him anywhere on the 1911 census).

I am also looking for any other info on the family in that house. Thomas Joseph Kelly (b1898) from that family is my G-Grandfather.

below is the only pictures I can find, and they don't help too much.
http://www.irishgraveyards.ie/search.php?yardid=353&area_id=21&lastname=kelly&firstname=&address=&month=&year=
John and Mary Kelly from Liscat are also in the cemetery (plot 273-A and 274-A) and liscat and cuilitinny are bordering each other, so they could be from the same family.

I also found this index below, but their names are so common that without seeing the original, I do not feel comfortable including this as a record.  I do not have any record to confirm Thady's birthday, but I have him as (B.1969), his fathers name was John, and I believe his mothers name was Mary Carney.

Name:   Thady Kelly
Gender:   Male
Birth Date:   21 Jan 1869
Birth Place:   Mayo, Ireland
Father's name:   John Kelly
Mother's name:   Mary Carney
FHL Film Number:   101183

If anyone can help at all, It would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick

In the absence of any other replies you may wish to contact Michael at irishgraveyards an explain the issue - http://www.irishgraveyards.ie/contactus.html. He occasionally revisits sites he has previously surveyed to update his site and he may oblige with an improved photograph(s).

There are very few local researchers, one of whom who may assist is a contributor to Find a Grave http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&MRid=47069730 and who is a member of the Mayo Genealogy Group http://www.ouririshheritage.org/category/mayo_genealogy_group  /  http://mayogenealogy.blogspot.ie/ .

As for the baptismal records you will find that additional details are included like townlands etc at http://www.rootsireland.ie/mayo/ . This is a subscription site and I would suggest the Parishes you focus on are Knock and Aghamore. Catholic Parish records held on microfilm at the National Library of Ireland are due to be released online early July, without subscription. If you can wait these will be invaluable and consume you in hours of discovery and frustration.

Thank you very much for all the info.  I will definitely start searching those records in July. I'm sure they will be a big help.

Thank you,
Rick.
