Arabella Leech/Leach b. Londonderry 1803
« on: Wednesday 20 May 15 11:25 BST (UK) »
I'm not sure how to start searching for my ancestor Arabella Leech.  Census 1841 and 1851 have her born in Ireland, but she is in Lancashire at that time.   Any suggestions where I could find her birth/baptism details and those of her parents?

Many thanks

Simon

Hi Tina

She was married (1824 Bolton-le-Moors) to Thomas Rothwell by that time and living in 71, Oldfield Road, Salford.  The name looks like Isabella on the census page.

Thanks
Simon

Hi Steve the 1851 census is so hard to read because of distortion.
Isabella is 48 they have her born in London Lancs Irland. Who knows.
Thomas 54 bn Bolton, Wm 25 bn Bolton, Thomas 17 bn Manchester.
sub district Regent Rd Salford.
I hope this helps you and the peeps.

The 1851 census page is damaged not distorted but clearly shows her birthplace as Londonderry Ireland.

Thank you both for that information.   Do you know how I search the Irish records to find Arabella's baptism in Londonderry?

You need to know the townland (or street if in a city like Derry) where the family might have lived and their religion and then check what churches were in that area and then which have records that go back far enough.

Gosh, all I know is from the 1851 England Census, that she was born in Londonderry.

You will need more details to start searching in Londonderry (either the city or the county) starting with the family's religion.

Have a look at this topic on tracing Irish ancestors-
