Stantons / Sadlers of Worcester and Dudley
« on: Wednesday 20 May 15 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hello All

New to rootschat, so apologies if my post is in wrong area, I'm researching my my family names of Stanton (Worcester and Dudley) and Sadler (Dudley) - I've had excellent success with Sadler and my maternal grandmother - Fisher. Finding out a lot of history and ancestors,

However my direct name of Stanton has hit a wall with Thomas Stanton B. 1791 in Wickamford, his father may have been Henry ?

I'm doing my very best to find out more details and hope to break through the wall.

Thanks for looking and by chance if anyone has a lead I'd appreciate it and will always offer help for others.

Looking at: Taylor, Heneberry, Murrell, Stanton, Fisher, Sadler, Reeves
Stanton, Sadler, Fisher, Essex, Taylor, Heneberry, Murrell, Sheen.

Thanks for your welcome  ;) :)

How did you know that Thomas' wife might be Mary ?  :) that's one lead I'm trying to uncover that I didn't mention in my post  :)

I can't trace any definitive info on marriage details
Stanton, Sadler, Fisher, Essex, Taylor, Heneberry, Murrell, Sheen.

The surname Stanton seems to be widely distributed. My paternal grandmother Laetitia Burton (mother Laetititia Stanton) was born in Pinchbeck nr. Spalding Lincs in 1859. Does this surname have a single root I wonder?
Ayres Brignell Cornwell Harvey Shipp  Stimpson Stubbings (all Cambs) Baumber Baxter Burton Ethards Proctor Stanton (all Lincs) Luffman (all counties)

Thanks Jackie - very quick work  :)  .......... I'm still checking that marriage out, as Thomas would have been 60 .......... chances are he may have had an earlier marriage.

Stanton has a few spelling changes over time such as Stinton, Staunton being two of the most common - Stanton seems to have its origins from Derbyshire although I have yet to find any ancestor of mine North of Staffordshire.

Thanks
Stanton, Sadler, Fisher, Essex, Taylor, Heneberry, Murrell, Sheen.

I think Henry is his father (from the IGI batch finder)

Thomas Stanton christening 6 February 1791
WICKHAMFORD, WORCESTER, ENGLAND
father: Henry Stanton
mother: Mary

Your man married a Mary too, how confusing!

Possibly Henry's marriage
Henry Stanton
14 October 1788
Wickhamford, Worcester, England
spouse: Mary Ryland

Their children
Richard  ch 10 May 1789 Wickhamford
Thomas ch 6 February 1791
John ch 4 February 1798
Ann ch 29 July 1804

Check here for more about Stantons in Wickford
http://www.badsey.net/history/s.htm#wprob_156

STANTON, Henry (m) bc 1771; Part Labourer assisted by son. 1841 census
STANTON, Henry (m) buried 18 Feb 1844. Wickhamford burial

Where was the Mary that married Thomas Stanton (in the 1841 census) from? Maybe check her birthplace for the marriage if she came from nearby
Wemyss/Crombie/Laing/Blyth (West Wemyss)
Givens/Normand (Dysart)
Clark/Lister (Dysart)
Wilkinson/Simson (Kettle or Kettlehill)
