Hi Rosie,

If the Father was a doctor then he could have come back to the UK to either work at the 1st Eastern General Hospital, or the hospital in Barnwell or the hospital in Cherry Hinton (both of these being hospitals for soldier's with venereal diseases).

With the baby being born in July, mum by the sounds of it came back to UK a bit earlier then her husband to have her baby, rather then having baby on route back to the UK.

Could someone who lived at no 67 have been a former servant of the parents-a nanny perhaps? It might be possible to check old electoral registers to see who the householder was.

I have obtained the birth certificate relating to 67 Cherry Hinton Road (in the parish of St Andrew the Less, Cambridge) ... there is something written underneath the address which I can't decipher. Can anyone help?

Definitely Urban District, so outside the city at that time. Regarding the address itself; I was born in Cambridge in 1940 at my Aunt's home where my motgher had gone for the confinement. I am told I was delivered by a midwife; name of Dorrington who had been in practice very many years; and who came to the house on her bicycle through 2 feet of snow!! (Seems unlikely!)

However, the real point of this is that the lady concerned was an independent midwife, so it might be worthwhile looking on the 1911 census for No 67 both in Cambridge and Cherry Hinton to see if the lady of the house shows an occupation as midwife. Who knows, it might even be Miss Dorrington, she was in practice long enouigh I believe.
