Robert William Piggins of Mount Waverley Vic

   I have been asked by a relative in the UK to see what we can find out about 'Billy' Piggins who was born in Consett in 1910 and died in Mount Waverley on 6th September 1971.    Springvale Cemetery have confirmed that his ashes were collected on 9th Sept. 1971 by his wife Elizabeth Rebecca, but we cannot find any trace of a marriage to an Elizabeth either in England or Australia.  'Billy' had a son Melville from his first marriage, who died two years ago in Consett.
   Problem at the moment is that the Victorian Public Records Office Website doesn't appear to be working - keeps fouling up when one tries to register or search.    Unfortunately at my age I can no longer get into the City, otherwise would go to the Office myself.
    I wonder therefore whether anyone might have any idea how to find out whether 'Billy' and Elizabeth ever did get married?   We know that he arrived by the Otranto in 1950 and that both him and Elizabeth appear in electoral rolls at the same address from about 1954 onwards.

I will P M you some information from the Electoral Roll of 1949 regarding a woman who may be the correct Elizabeth Rebecca.

We have no evidence at this stage she is deceased.

  Thank you so much Cando and Sue.   This adds a lot to what we had discovered beforehand.   Alex tells me that he had an operation on his thumb on Monday so is typing with one hand - or it may have been one of those little glitches that occur from time to time.    Anyway I'll pass all this back to him and he can have another go tonight.    I feel a bit sad thinking about the son Melville that can't ever have known about his father's new life in Melbourne.
   I even remember that short line of shops at 445 Hawthorn Road as I drove past every work day for about 11 years from 1976 to 1987 when I worked in South Caulfield.   The flats above those shops look so derelict on Google today.    My daughter Fiona worked with me at Hemisphere Travel for most of those years and today she is in The Glen, only a short distance from 28 Muir Road where Robert Piggins died.

    This is what Alex has told me:
"Thanks Malcolm,
I did all this at the week-end but the site kept timing-out and did not accept my registration; anyway it did not work. Not the most user friendly site I’ve yet seen!  I’ll try again after my armsling comes off, as I’m typing with one hand/finger until then.   Had a Operation on my right thumb on Monday which has slowed me down.

    But I also had a try and the page went a bit funny, so I gave up at that point.

His wife Elizabeth Rebecca PIGGINS remarried Maxwell Hansley RAWNSLEY & they moved to Tasmania. Elizabeth died in 2013 & Maxwell in 2011 at Launceston. They were cremated at Carr Villa & their ashes collected.
