George Philpott 1870 - which one
« on: Thursday 21 May 15 12:06 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the ancestors of the George Philpot who married Margaret Bray Southwark 1D 452. Dec 1895  They had 5 children

 Catherine 1897
 Margaret 1898
 Mary 1900
Alice 1906 who married Harry John Hare (my family)
 George 1907

Margaret Philpott (Bray) the mother died   1908 age 36

On the 1911 census George Philpott is a widower with only 2 children
  Margaret now 13 and
  Mary now 10

where are the other children Alice now 5 and George now 4, I cant find them on 1911 census

Family sources say that they went to live with Aunt Kate and Uncle George (d 1954)

Aunt Kate was  Catherine Bray b 1874, a sister to Margaret who also married a man called George Philpott Southwark in Sep 1898 1d 330. (I didn't believe it until I checked)

I cant seem to find enough differences between the two men called George Philpott, to be able to trace their ancestors.

Can anyone help me pleaseeeeee

Hi if you look for a Mrs Bray b 1841 Ireland you will find 2 of the children along with the Aunt Katherine Bray not Philpot in the later census

Maybe worthwhile getting a copy of the marriage to see who his father is there is a tree that has his father as Charles Philpot mother Ellen ...a copy of the marriage would confirm that  ???

Thank you Rosie  17

I found that census sheet 1911, and I am sure that they are the correct children, but that does not tell us where Alice Philpott b, 1906 is.   It is also strange that if that is Catherine, she is the right age,  who married George Philpot in Dec qtr 1898, why is her name down as Bray and where is her husband.

Alice is actually the relative I am looking for.  She married my father's brother  Harry J Hare  in 1934

Did you  see  Katherin/.Catherines  status  on 1911?   maybe something  went awry and George is  no longer  in the  picture ?

Just wondering, where was Alice PHILPOTT born?  Wondering if she had a middle name?

Cheers
