Macdonald DNA
« on: Saturday 23 May 15 23:28 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate making contact with any Macdonalds of Hebridean ancestry who have had their Y-DNA tested.

I would be fascinated to discover any persons who belong to the R1a1a Haplogroup but who don't appear to be direct descendants of the Clan Donald progenitor, Somerled.

Yours Sincerely

Donnie Macdonald

Hello Donnie

I'm also a Macdonald in the R1a1a group. I've tried the Clan Donald USA DNA project, and corresponded with their DNA expert (Douglas J McDonald). Sad to say, I found him rather dismissive that I was not descended from one of the clan chiefs.  I wondered why, it's only when I went through the small print on their website that I realised they are biased towards proving the geneology of Clan chiefs. Perhaps non-Chief folk are not worthy?  But maybe 99% of the clan are not "chiefs", so where does that leave the great majority?
