Kemsing near Sevenoaks address knowledge please
« on: Monday 25 May 15 11:47 BST (UK) »
I was born and brought up in the village of Kemsing in 1943 and whilst researching my family history I came across a newspaper article about my parents wedding at the village church in 1939.
My fathers best man was shown to be John Underwood living at New Holme, Seal Road, Kemsing.
Although the address is shown in the 1939 Electoral register and later phone books, there is no trace on any maps of the village. I lived in the village for 24 years and have not heard of this road so does anyone have any knowledge of it. I thought that it might have been the previous name for Childsbridge Lane but that has always been.
Many thanks
Mick Johnson

Wrong side of Kemsing, or have you already looked here?

If you have found it on 1939 ER, where does it appear to run into or from?
Any other named houses on it?

Hi

I think this may actually be Seal Road in Seal, very close to Kemsing. I've had a quick look through the 1939 Electoral Register and can also see, for instance, Childsbridge Lane which is just as far from Kemsing. Is it possible that Seal village might have formed part of a Kemsing administrative body at that time?

Unlike the census, the street names in the electoral registers are listed alphabeticlly within the ward so you can see what is in the vicinity but not what is adjacent.
