Hi Claire to be fair I really can't be sure  ???

I sent a cheque for 2 certs. & it was the wrong account (a closed one)  :-[ :-[

By the time it came back I didn't have enough funds  ;D

Hi folks,

Have ordered birth cert. online & will see what Mary Ann's m/s is as I can't go any further with her death cert. so there's no point in ordering it as it's her parent's names I need & without being sure of her name I can't look for her birth ::)

Perhaps you already have this, and there's no relevance to your main quest, so apologies if I'm duplicating information  ::)

According to the Newcastle Courant of the 9th December 1870, Mary Ann died at 7, Wellington Terrace on 20th November 1870

Thanks Jen,

I didn't have the source but I think until the son's death cert. arrives I'm stuck where I am.

I phoned to order it hoping it would be quicker  ???..............they're on holiday today  ::)

I just can't wait to see what it says.

I have wasted so much £'s on wrong certs. (mainly with surname variant). If they had a system like SP we could eliminate people & when we look for something & find it we go in with both feet.

I "adopted" a family a few years ago unwittingly  ???

The daughter had the same name Jane Ann & same surname Donohoe born Northumberland same time 1870/71. I ordered the 1870...............hadn't noticed the other because the proper spelling for my Jane Ann was Donahoe & it's cost me a fortune with many certs. for that name so you can see my reluctance & being unsure  ;D

There is a Mary Ann Barker of the right age in Newcastle in 1851 census. Not born in Hull, but her mother and brother are. Not with her parents in 1861, when your Mary Ann is with Anthony Jude. Parents names fit for her children.

1851 census, St Anthony Potteries, Byker, Newcastle.
Henry Barker, 30, Earthenware Potter, b. Leeds,
Sarah Barker, wife, 31, b. Hull,
William Barker, brother, unm, 32, Potter, b. Leeds
John Barker, son, 15, Apprentice Potter, b Hull,
Mary Ann Barker, dau, 11, b. Leeds,
Martha Barker, 5, niece, 5, b. Leeds.
HO107/2408/214/17

1861 census, Steam Engine Inn, Byker, Newcastle.
Henry Barker, 40, Potter & Publican, b. Leeds,
Sarah Barker, wife, 42, b. Hull,
+ Lodgers
RG 9/3834/34/15

Going to be hard to verify without a marriage cert to Anthony Jude to confirm her fathers name.
Alan.
Northumberland - Smith, Willis,
Durham - Rogerson, Child
Cumberland - Irving, Hill
North Yorkshire - Layfield,
Ireland - Collins

Thanks Alan..........brilliant find & everything ties in perfectly name wise.

Your right it will be hard to prove but when the birth cert. arrives it will give me a better idea as someone on the other link gave me a lead to a possible marriage on the other link which could be the tie-in with the name Ross  ???

Even the fact that her father was a Publican in 1861..................as was my 2 x g/grandfather (Inn Keeper 1861) her "husband" at Old Highlander Public House, North Shields.

Annie

ADDED..........I forgot to say I am hoping the birth cert. will give her previous married name if it is her who married Mr Ross ???
