Lilly Emmott
« on: Monday 25 May 15 16:59 BST (UK) »
My gt gt grandparents had a little girl, Lily, who was born in Dover on 23Dec1863 but didn't survive to the next census. I have been unable to find a convincing record of her death but have beem given details of Lily Emmett, recorded at Leeds in the September quarter of 1864 (9b 245). Anybody out there know anything of that Lily ?

Here's a few things that may or may not help you..

Lilly Emmett b 1864 Halifax
Lily Emmett b 1861 Todmorden
Your Lily Emmott b. 1864 Dover

Lily Emmett d. 1864 Leeds
Lily Emmett d. 1862 Todmorden
Lilly Emmott b. 1864 d.1867 Ireland Dublin

So It looks like one Lily was born and died in Todmorden, but are the Lily's who born and died in Halifax and Leeds the same? Or perhaps that death is your Lilly in Ireland?

Hope something here may help :)

Barry,

The Lily Emmett who died in 1864 in Leeds is buried in a public grave in Beckett Street Cemetery, Leeds.

She was seven months old and was the daughter of George R. Emmett of Camp Field.  She was buried on the 31st July 1864.  Grave number 4702.  Consecrated section.

I hope that this information is of some use to you.

Best Wishes

Many thanks for the responses. At least I know that the Leeds death was not our Lilly but can't understand why there is no record of her death.

Barry,

You are most welcome at least you can now eliminate the death in Leeds.

Best Wishes

Hi Pauline, the father was James Anderson Emmott and he would have been in some sort of clerical work but definitely not in the services. He was actually a manager of the Pickfords depot in Dover and/or Sheerness.

Barry (Hi!)

Do you know for certain that Lily is definitely dead by the 1871 census,or are you just basing that on her not being with mum and dad?

Could she be in hospital, maybe not listed with her full name,or could she be with relations, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc?

Carol

Hi Carol, she never appears in any census and isn't mentioned in her mother's will, her father died intestate. There is no reference to Lilly anywhere apart from her birth. I wonder if stillborns are recorded as born but not as dying.
