« on: Tuesday 26 May 15 23:41 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on George Reeves and Charlotte Wells, ( my grandparents ) George came from Staies, and Charlotte from Bramley where they were married.  Not sure of dOB for either but would probably be 1880s
I would like to trace the line back on both of them as far back as possible. Can anyone help please  :)

This is their marriage? On same page FreeBMD

Marriages June 1/4 1910   George Reeves and Charlotte Evelyn Wells registration district Staines  vol 3a page 21
You say Charlotte was born and married in Bramley (Yorkshire?) and married there but I can't see a marriage there for a Reeves and Wells.
Did your ggrandparents have a daughter Evelyn born 1910?

I can't see a birth of aCharlotte Evelyn Wells but there is this one

Births March 1/4 1892
Charlotte Emma Wells  reg. dist. Staines  vol 3a page 9

You really need to buy George's and Charlotte's marriage cert to make sure you are following the correct line.

Using the free search for the 1911 census on FindMyPast there is a George Reeves living with a Charlotte in Stanwell, Staines Middlesex. He was born 1890. Charlotte born c1892 and an Evelyn born c1911

Even if I had access to the full transcription and image we are not allowed to post this information on Rootschat. Your local library may have the free versions of either ancestry or Findmypast where you can look up this information.

There is  a public tree on ancestry which has your great grandparents on it with all their children.

George John Reeves born c1890 in  Feltham, Middlesex. to parents
George John Reeves 1857 – 1921 and Alice Anne Dance 1861 – 1928
It takes George Reeves line back to  Augustine Reeves born 1634 in Bix, Oxfordshire  but no line back for Charlotte.

All of this information would need to be verified but accessing ancestry at your public library would let you see all the information which is on there.

Here is the marriage record for Charlotte and George so you won't need the certificate.  :)

Charlotte Evelyn Wells age 19 Spouse - Father Frederick John Wells
George Reeves age 20 occupation car man, Father George John Reeves occ (can't read)
Married 30 Apr 1910 at St Mary the Virgin, Stanwell Richmond upon Thames
Witnesses Frederick Wells and Mary Wells
The name Evelyn has been inserted later as it is sitting above and in the middle of Charlotte and Wells.

There is an interesting report from the Old Bailey 1878 about George John Reeves senior's altercation with a neighbour who consequently died

Hi,

Looking at the marriage cert for Charlotte and George it records Charlotte's father's occupation as Hay Binder. I therefore believe that this could be them on the 1901 -

Fredk Wells   39 b. Stanwell, Middlesex Hay Binder
Mary A Wells   39 b. Horton, Buckinghamshire
Fredk Wells   son 11 b. Stanwell, Middlesex
Mary M Wells   dau 7 b. Stanwell, Middlesex
Alfred Wheeler   boarder 15 b. Wokingham, Berkshire
Wm Charlwood   50 b. Ifield, Sussex
Charlotte Wells   dau 9 b. Stanwell, Middlesex
RG13 Piece 1174 Folio 149 Page 28, Oaks Road, St Mary, Stanwell

Charlotte's baptism -

Charlotte Emma Wells
31 Jan 1892, St Mary the Virgin, Stanwell
Father's name - John Wells  ???
Father's occupation - Hay Binder
Mother's name - Mary Wells
Abode - Stanwell

It's possible that Charlotte preferred the name Evelyn rather than Emma.

However as Charlotte and George's marriage was recorded at St Mary's the Virgin, Stanwell, equally the above Wells family are living in that parish and a Charlotte Emma was baptised there, then it would appear that Charlotte Emma and Charlotte Evelyn are the same people. Or have I missed something  :)

Yes I think this is the right line, George and Charlotte were my grandparents on my dad's side, I know that they were from Staines middx and I remember my dad saying that Charlotte was from Bramley Kent, they had 7 children one of whom died, the children's names were, George,Evelyn,Harry, Constance and Neville and one more who was drowned. At some point in history the family went to Ireland where they were reported to be gypsy horse traders, but then they came back to this country and somewhere in between records were lost. I would like to trace them as far back as I can, I do appreciate your help :)
