Vida Isabella Grace Roux
« on: Wednesday 27 May 15 08:04 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I've never posted on this board before (mainly use the New Zealand one) but I'm hoping for some help as I've never tried to search South Africa before.

I'm looking for the birth/death of Vida Isabella Grace Roux (Christian names may be inverted) whose parents were, Grace (Rudolf) and Tommy Roux.  Vida was born in 1918 in Krugersdorrp.  I am interested in finding out about her parents'nationalities and in fact just ANYTHING about this family but I don't know where to start!  Help!   :-[

I'm very happy to reciprocate with any New Zealand research  :)

Looking forward to your replies.

Cheers

A search here shows
Grace Emma Muriel Roux (born Rudolph) versus Pieter Wouter Thomas - divorce records (various entries 1922-1928)

Given that combination of first names, I believe this would be Grace's baptism:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KFN9-TVY
parents Julius Carl and Emma Maria
and a younger brother, Julius Aubrey:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KFNS-79R

At NAAIRS there is an estate record in 1928 for a Emma Maria Rudolph (born Boylan), deceased spouse Julius Carel Rudolph.

At least that gives a start on Grace's side - there might be living relatives via her brother Julius?

Thank you both so much for your help.  I am working with Vida's daughter but the family know absolutely nothing about their mother's parents etc so this is a wonderful start.

Many thanks

Seems to be a reference to them here:
http://www.gisa.org.za/site/content/i-l
Confirms Emma Maria Rudolph (Grace's mum)'s death location as Krugersdorp.

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/location/1927115
 - there are some SA church records here.
Look at the South Africa, Church of the Province of South Africa, Parish Registers, 1801-2004
images (not name searchable) for Johannesburg, Krugersdorp, St Peter, and you can see the 1928 burial of Emma Rudolph.  You might be able to find the christening of Vida and the marriage of her parents, too (presuming they used the same church, which of course there's no guarantee of).

Incidentally you should read this about getting copies of documents from the archives via EGGSA

As the divorce records and Emma's estate file would be from Transvaal (TAB), they would be able to copy them for you but as the cost might end up being quite high perhaps see if anybody understands what's likely to be within the three different divorce-related files and which one would be of most use.

Hi,
I don't know if you're still interested but Vida's brother Pieter is my great grandfather. Me and my grandmother would be interested in comparing notes on Vida and her family.

Thank You
