Help With A Place Name In Wales for the parish of Cerrigydrudion
« on: Thursday 28 May 15 14:38 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to decipher where my 3xgreat grandfather was baptised in 1823. It's taken from the baptism records for the parish of Cerrigydrudion in what was then Denbighshire

Thank you
Williams, Marshall, Garrard, Hughes, Roberts, Evans
McAndrew, Higginson, Settle, Watts, Martin, Dunn

Another baptism of a Humphrey Lloyd with parents Cadwallader and Jane Lloyd in the same parish in 1825 and the family also appear to be living in the same place

In 1851 Cadwallader and Jane Lloyd are living there in the Township of Hafod y Maidd in the Parish of Cerrigydrudion with the property adjacent to Glasfryn (on the main road to the north east of Cerrigydrudion on the A5)

It's listed as Bryn Ffolt. It certainly appears the same on the 1861 census for Cadwaladr and also in the 1901 census for the Hughes family.Their daughter's marriage is referenced in this snippet

Still trying to find it on a map

I notice that Cadwaladr Lloyd is a miller.Next to Glasfryn on maps circa 1875 are both a Corn Mill and a property Ty'n y Felin.Perhaps Bryn Ffolt was one of the adjacent buildings.

Received a pm from Jimbach who suggests that "FFolt  is the Welsh corruption of the English fold   as in sheep  fold etc."

  • Manners cost nothing, and are worth the effort.
