PEARSON William John - searching for his service records.
« on: Saturday 30 May 15 06:07 BST (UK) »
Hello - please could you point me in the right direction for finding these records.

William John Pearson born 1908 and served during the WW11.  I have foundone lot of records which says extracted to NSRW in 1956.  What does NSRW stand for.

Before he was in the airforce I think he worked as a station porter in Rutherglen, Scotland.
He and his family migrated to Australia in 1949.

He was supposed to have served in the airforce, but in Edinburgh.

At some stage his brother-in-law met him far away from where one would have expected him to be, and asked why, but wasn't told (no hanky panky going on - something else - possibly classified at the time?) - in fact he never spoke about his war service except to say he worked on an airbase in UK - supposedly Turnhouse - but no-one has been able to trace anything about him being based there.

How do I go about finding his records please?

I have tried FindMyPast, but can't seem to get through to any airforce records - I can find a few of the same name in the Royal Artillary - would that be right - would Airforce be named like that??

Thanks for any pointers you can give me.

Thanks Rosie.

Reading that, it looks as if I can't get access to the records anyhow - not direct next of kin!  Only an ex-in-law.

Thanks for your help.   :)

I don't suppose this applies  ::)

You can apply for a copy of someone else’s service records if one of the following apply
- you have a general research interest - you’ll only have access to limited information, unless they died more than 25 years ago

He died 42 years ago.

I do have a general research interest.

I'll have a go - or at least push my fellow researcher in the right direction.  ;)

Thanks again!   :)

Imber - thank you for your interest and the link!

 - I don't know if I am dumb - well yes I do really - I am - I can't find any W J Pearsons.   :(

Please would you give me another hint?  I have found one - H Pearson but then discovered he was in 1918 -ish.
