Census and Marriage lookup
« on: Saturday 30 May 15 10:45 BST (UK) »
Good day everyone,

I am stuck with a specific family, James Milam was baptised on 13 Sep 1827 in Crondall. He was the son of William and Martha Milam.

Other children born to a William and Martha Milam in Crondall include:

  • George Milam, baptised on 17 May 1824
  • Susannah Milam, baptised on 18 Sep 1825
  • Charles Milam, baptised on 23 Aug 1829
  • Henry Milam, baptised on 04 Dec 1831
  • Jane Milam, baptised on 13 Jul 1834
  • Harriet Milam, baptised on 16 Apr 1837
  • David Milam, baptised on 01 May 1842

I am in no way certain that all these children were born to the same William and Martha, but it is probable I suppose.

I have been unable to find any marriage of a William Milam to anyone named Martha. If anyone can help me find their marriage it would be much appreciated.

I am also looking to trace the family in the 1841 and 1851 census. Any help would be great.

Kind regards,

Duncan

Just realised that James isn't with them in either census.

Hey Groom, thank you,

He definitely won't be in the 1851 census as he was already in the Cape Colony by that time, his older brother is also missing from the 1841 census, possible that they were perhaps working away from home?

James Milam   23  visitor   Railway Lab             Crondall, Hampshire
Maria Milam   23  wife                                    Basingstoke, Hampshire

Just seen your post - in which case there must have been 2 James Milams born about the same time. It is funny that this one was born in Crondall and had a wife born Basingstoke where the family were living in 1851.

It is very possible that I have the wrong family, as it would make sense that the James in the 1851 census is the right one for that family, mmm
