and in hill end on some of the kids baptism papers they spelt garner as gaynon  & gainer and maris as mayris

In the 1870s Hill End and Tambaroora were part of the Wellington Police District.  The police helped compile the electoral rolls.   The 1878 Electoral Roll for Wellington includes the following entries which may help

George GAIN, Dubbo, a freeholder at Tambaroora
William GARNER, Narroogal, a freeholder at Bell River
Patrick GAYNON, Tambaroora, a freeholder at Tambaroora
Alfred MARRIS, residence Golden Gully
John MARRIS, residence, Hillend

Cheers,  JM

New South Wales State Record Office INDEX for Register of Auriferous Leases
 http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online/indexes-to-land-records/registers-of-auriferous-gold-leases-1874-1928

Alfred MARIS, several different Hill End Gold leases noted there.
Various GARNER, including Charles James, with Hill End Gold leases noted there too.

May I please acknowledge the fine contribution from my friends Kaye and Billie in the compiling of that particular index.

Cheers,  JM
