Forster family of Elsdon
« on: Sunday 31 May 15 16:29 BST (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with the following?

I am trying to trace the ancestors of a Roger Forster born circa 1700/3 at Elsdon (?) and died 1782 at Elsdon.

There are a number of family trees on Ancestry and the web which gives his parents as Thomas Forster (b.c. 1650) and his wife Mary. This Thomas Forster was the son of another Thomas Forster born 1610, died 1689 Elsdon, by his wife Barbara?

The Thomas Forster born 1610 is supposed to be the son of a Gabriel Forster born c 1570 at Linheads by his wife Elinor (b c 1575?).

Gabriel Forster (1570) was apparently the son of an Edward Forster born c 1530 (some pedigrees say at Redesdale?), who was apparently the son of Sir Thomas Forster and Dorothy Ogle?

I have checked the web but cannot find a son called Edward Forster listed as being of Thomas and Dorothy?

If anyone can help with any of the above I would be most grateful! :)

I'd be treating the Ancestry trees with caution because the earliest parish records for Elsdon begin in 1672.  There is nothing before that unless you can link in with the local landed gentry.

I'm not saying that Roger is not connected to the Forsters and the Ogles but it could be very difficult to prove.

Hello!
I did some research on Roger Forsters line a few years ago when I was working on a project called Remembering Slavery. Don,t get worried, I think the connection with slavery was distant. I am away from home just now but when I get home I will see if I can find my notes. VAL
