Grants of Wick
« on: Friday 08 July 05 22:03 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful if anyone could help, I am researching David and Janet Grants children all born in Wick. David was born in Moray Janet (Mcivor) in Wick.
I have all information on the following children Alexander b1865 who moved to Liverpool, Jane b1866 married John Budge, Janet b 1867 married John Cameron moved to Edinburgh, Davidina b1875 married James Macdonald. Jemima b 1871 was headmistress at Bilbster school and lived in the schoolhouse died 1947 and is buried with her parents at Wick old cemetery
The following sisters I am having great difficulty in finding, Margaret Jane  b1869 and Isabella Ann b1872, if any one can help I would be very very grateful.

hi pal,

had another wee look at your post, thought mabye posting some details may spring a response, it would also bring to post to light again.

david grant married janet mcivor on the 12/5/1864 at thurso, caithness

grant children from the marriage:

alexander...28/2/1865

janet bain...26/12/1867
margaret...11/12/1869
jemima macivor...17/3/1871
isabella ann...25/5/1872

all grant children born in wick

would nice to see the 1871 census on this thread for this family.

as i said jane cruickshank was the clue to david grant's parents.

there is a submitted entry for the marriage of alexander grant and jane cruickshank for 1/4/1821 in elgin but i do not believe this to be true, i think they were married in 1820.

i make that 14 children!!! margaret and alexander were christened in dallas, moray, while all the rest were in elgin.

Hi Joe

Just happened to see this reply to day, sorry to have taken so long to acknowledge it.

I do have Alexander Grant and Jane's Cruikshank's information, they moved from Elgin to Kilminster yes with fourteen children.
Yes they were married in 1/4/1821 I believe the 1820 date belongs to another Alexander Grant and Jane Criuickshank and Alexander died 1856 Jane 1868 both buried in Caithness.

The two sisters I am interested in are Margaret Jane born 1869, Isabella Ann born 1872, daughters of David Grant and Janet Mcivor( who are buried in Wick Old Cemetery without a headstone)

Thank you for the trouble of sending me the information I am very grateful.

Many thanks

Regards PinkLady

hi Joe

You are a gem, thank you so much for the census information, I was aware Jemima had been in Sutherland but no idea Isabella was also, so I have a new direction to look at.

I am truly grateful for your time and help.
