Marian Amy Try born 1879 - Died 1966
« on: Thursday 04 June 15 15:53 BST (UK) »
Would be grateful for any information regarding a Marian Amy Try - Born in Peckham in London in 1879, and who married a Tom Carden Moore 1898 at the age of 21.  Together they ended up in Conwy in North Wales.  I think neither had a connection with the town.  Tom was born in 17 Calder Terrace in Burnley in 1867.  But I believe they met in London?

Regards Dewi Jones.

Have you got his occupation from the marriage?

I think it says army private for 1901 so maybe he was posted there.  It's a hard question to answer  :-\

There's a military service record for him on a family tree.  Looks like he was in India 1891.

My guess is that they moved there for his work. That would have been a very good position in those days. Did he have connections to the estate perhaps?

Thanks Jo. I will look into the Rhiwlas Estate. Never heard of it before, could it be The Vaynol Estate?

Tom's occupation on the 1901 Census states he is an Army Private and Brightside the house they are living at is just outside the town of Conway in an area known locally as Morfa Waen. Within a few minutes walk of the house was a large Army Training camp & ranges, this is probably why Tom came to the area.I have looked up Tom's Army record and he joined up 1890 to the Queen's 16th Lancers Reg No 3132, his occupation was a Carpenter. As they married in Llandudno, which is only a few miles from Conwy perhaps Marion came there on holiday, as at the time it was a very popular holiday resort or she could have come here for work.

If you want to know more about the Rhiwlas Estate Google 'National Library of Wales Rhiwlas Estate Records' and it will give you a short history of the owners etc.

Hope this gives you a few more ideas to work on,

Kind Regards,

Ellen
