Although slightly to old have you considered this James McCurley b 1887 Scotland and living in Ireland in 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002857797/

There is also a James McCurly age 24 living as Possilpark Glasgow on the 1911 census on Scotlands People using their freesearch

also, doing a 'free search' on SP brings up James McCurley, born 1887, died 1970 Lanarkshire.  Death is too recent to download, I'm afraid

Hi jgm

As I understand it, you’re looking at two potential marriages in Scotland.  Although not impossible, Fife seems an unlikely location.  The only way to find out if your James McCurley married Helen Carlin in 1911 is to download the certificate image from scotland’s people.  This will tell you the parent’s names for both bride and groom.  If it’s the right marriage you will also be able to download the 1962 death cert for Helen McCurley, other name Carlin, but not the 1970 one for James as it’s too recent, you can however send for this cert but it will cost you more.

1910 James ? & Margaret Cowan Fife
1911 James McCurley married Helen Carlin Milton, Lanarkshire

1962 Helen McCurley, other name Carlin, born 1890 died Milton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
1970 James McCurley, born 1887, died Glasgow, Lanarkshire

These locations would be right for an Irish glassworker.

To first reply

I looked into this and at this moment cannot rule him in or out , further info required.
However the second one looks interesting, although I appreciate there will be more than one James McCurley, However I can confirm that he was born in 1889 January to be precise.

when I looked at marriage ,I noticed these two. I am at a loss as to why Fife would be ruled out ?
James would be late teens early twenties at this point ,

Hi jgm,

Not ruling out the Fife record, just seemed a bit vague with James? marrying Margaret Cowan, seems more logical to eliminate/confirm possible matches closer to Dumbarton.

Don't be too fixated about birth - death years not matching, ages given on death certs are only as reliable as the memory or knowledge of the informant and are often several years out.
