SARAH ELEANOR MEDCALF
« on: Sunday 07 June 15 16:05 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the husband of Sarah, I don't know her nee name. she was born in Stepney married a medcalf & had a son George William medcalf.
she must have been a widow because she remarries in hackney William stock or Daniel Frederick ford.
I am confused because George William medcalf was born in 1870 & the ( remarrying ) is said to be 1864.
I maybe on the wrong track goerge William was born in Bishopgate London.
Can anyone help me find my great great grandfather.
Many thanks in advance
Peter Medcalf

The Sarah Eleanor Medcalfe who married Daniel Ford was a spinster when she married in 1864 - her father was William Medcalfe

Hi Peter,

Can I ask did your George William marry a Louisa Long? If so I think you are indeed on the wrong track as this George William seems to be the son of a George William and a Sarah CAWDON. If this is the right one let me know and I can give you the censuses and records I found.

Cheers,
Holly

Harold William Medcalf was my grandfather & married Hannah Elizabeth ratcliffe Deakin, his father I believe was George William Medcalf who married Louisa Long from Horncastle.
Although GWM was born in Bishopgate he went to school in Nothamptonshire.
I found a record that shows he signed up in the army with the Sherwood Foresters in 1886 & then married Louisa Long in Nottingham 1888.
There is a document that states his Mother is Sarah Eleanor medcalf.
Its quite a unique spelling Medcalf so I think she is definitely the mother thereafter it gets confusing

In 1891 George William and wife Louisa are in Ranskill, Nottinghamshire. He is a railway porter. Name indexed as METCALF. They appear to have married in 1888 in Nottingham.

In 1901 they are in Eastwood, Notts, with son George R aged 2. Still with the railway. Indexed as MARSHALL for some strange reason, but definitely looks like MEDCALF to me.

They certainly waited a while before having children.
