William & Sarah Phillips of Shrewsbury
« on: Tuesday 09 June 15 19:59 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate any ideas on the following:

In the 1861 census, my ancestors William and Sarah (nee Lockett) Phillips were living in Shrewsbury with their six children, and both claimed to have been born in Whixall, Shropshire. He was a dealer in earthenware.
Several of their older children were born in Longton, Staffs, and I have found the marriage of a likely couple in Longton, both aged 21 and him a pot seller, in 1842.
I am almost convinced that the marriage in Longton is them, but am puzzled as to why they should both pick Whixall as a birthplace.

In 1871 he still claims Wixell as his birthplace, whilst she claims BishopWood (?) Staffordshire - so perhaps the truth lies somewhere in-between?

Thank you both for your interest and additional information. It looks as if it will have to remain a mystery. I half hoped to get a response from one of the Phillips family.
