Haley family & Portill family connections
« on: Thursday 11 June 15 09:43 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

please can some one help sort out a problem with my Portill { all spelling variations } and possible
connection to a family all from Ireland { possibly Co Clare }
My maternal 2x great grandmother was Jane portill, she married Michael Murphy 1860, Pateley
Birdge, Yorkshire, one of the witnesses was Susan Griffin, she can be found on the 1861 census
lodging with a family called Haley, Jane Portill's father on marriage certificate, is Simon Portill,
farmer, deceased.

Mary Purtill married John Hague, 1860, Ripon.
Mary's father on marriage certificate: John Purtill, farmer deceased. Witness. Bridget Haley.

Bridget Purtle married James Coyle 1857, Leeds.
Bridget's father on marriage certificate: Samuel Purtle, labourer.

1851 4 High Mill Square, Bishopthornton, Ripon
Catherine Purtle 18, 1833 lodging, Ireland.
Catherine is with other Irish girls, all lodging with a Margaret Fraley, 40, Ireland, hawkers wife,
keeps lodgers.

1861 Stammergate, Ripon.
Thomas Haley. 60 1801. Male/Head.  Ireland. Field labourer.

I believe these Portill girls if not sisters then cousins, any help finding my maternal 2x great grandmother's family would be wonderful, Jane Portill states she was from Co Clare, and i believe the others mentioned could be the same.
Any help much appreciated.
All the best.
Derek ;)

ps going through my notes i found a marriage of Simon Purtell, born 1827, Killrush, Clare,
to a Mary Flanegan, reason i mention this was one of the witnesses to Bridget Purtle marriage to
James Coyle was a James Flanegan, perhaps not even connected to but i would like to mention this.
