GALE family name
« on: Thursday 11 June 15 11:11 BST (UK) »
I have several names I need to know birth and death dates, but I have hit a brick wall. I have the latest dates for
Alan Parnell Gale b-20/02/1917 Glasgow d-13/05/1976 New Zealand
Going back is less successful
Robert Gale-Abt 1887 Ireland m Lora Duff Alexander-1892 Edinburgh d-1982
Berkley Gale(brother)b Abt 1884
Arthur-b 1889 Ireland d 1949 Victoria,Australia
The 3 brothers were all Doctors, Robert especially mentioned as being exceptional and winning many Medical Awards
Parnell Gale- b 1845 Abt m Mary Wilhelmina Shine
I am hoping someone could help me with these dates.

From Civil Service Evidence of Age Records :

" I , Parnell Gale , Head Constable of the Royal Irish Constabulary , 29 Patriot's Hill , City of Cork, declare that my son Parnell Gale was born at Peacock Lane in this City on the first day of June 1844 ..... and that he was 24 years of age last June ....there is no other record of his birth except that entered in the parochial register of the parish of St Ann's , Shandon , Cork... "

I think this is the correct Parnell Gale as he is on the 1901 Scotland census as a supervisor in the Inland Revenue ( Civil Service ).

Thank you for the info. Did you find anything on Robert Gale, son of Parnell Gale and Lora Duff Alexander, Robert was an important Doctor but once again no firm dates for birth or death.

Do you have Robert Gale in the Irish Registration Index ?

Jul-Sep 1887 Cork vol 5 p 139

This seems likely to be him , but may not be of course. You would need to order the certificate ( and risk it being wrong) to find out further information.

Wonderful information, I did not have these details for Berkley. Should it be too much to ask if you could find out the date Robert Gale died. I looked what you had for him with the dates of the Army Medical Service, and this is tying in with a random email I received from a lady who found 2 Medals amongst her fathers possessions, bought from a boot sale in England, with the name Robert Gale on one of them, date matches what you gave me, 1909.
