Yes correct. I managed to find all information for her trip, so she had the full picture when she went to visit Robert. Through having a tree on ancestry, I had contact with a lady in England whose father had bought a medallion at a flee market. Turns out it was a medical medallion from 1909 that belonged to Robert. How and why it wasn't in the family is a mystery, but the good news is, it came back to the family. The paper trail from a Glasgow Uni confirmed this.
And going back another generation she is the ggg granddaughter of William Gale B- 1778.
Father- Alan Parnell Gale. Mother- Elsie Piece Ball.

Hi Jan, thank you for your reply. I have an Irish background (Dublin) and have worked on Gale family history for decades. I now live in Australia. I'd be interested to learn more about your information on William Gale, b. 1778. I have that date also, but not a date for his death. Do you have that date, and information on his siblings? Robert

Hi Banks2223 The information I have for the Robert Gale you mention in your first post is that he was born 16 August 1887, and baptized Church of Ireland, Sr Finbarre, Cork. His parents Parnell Gale and Mary Wilhelmina Shine were then resident at 2 Hawthorn Place, College Road, Cork. His siblings were Meta(?) Gale [no other info] and Arthur Mitchell Gale b. 4 Oct 1889 in Cork.

Thank you Wivenhoe, I did not know that Cork-born A M Gale lived in London in 1919 after his discharge. I had thought, following his WWI service with the Australian Infantry that he returned to Australia. Do you have a location for his 1949 death?

Hi Unicorn1666,
Death was 29/12/1948 at Camberwell, Victoria, Australia.
He and his wife Mabel are buried in Springvale Botanical Cemetery. I visited their burial site earlier this year.

Hi Jan - So Arthur Mitchell Gale did return to Australia after the war. My only source of information has been his record at www.aif.adfa.edu.au (regimental number 1801) and the recent information in these threads about his St John's Wood address close to his sister. Your step mother and I seem to have the same relationship to Parnell Gale (1815-1893). Please click on my unicorn tag if you would like to discuss more. Robert
