Quote Gaffy ‘ Hanover was the son of Robert and Mary Stephenson, he was baptised in Clough Presbyterian Church, County Down, in 1824. That date is about 6 years or more earlier than what he admits to census etc ‘ Clough is in Loughinisland civil parish. More modern Census used districts rather than parishes. Clough itself is less than a mile away from Cloughram townland in the civil parish of Kilmegan. Cloughram has a connection with Elizabeth Stevenson b 1828 a widow farmer with family, and ten years later is joined by a John [her son?] with family nearby son see 1901 and 1911 census They are Church of Ireland . This townland has the famous Mount Panther house. However I could find no trace of earlier Stephenson/Stevenson in the Tithes Applotment books or Griffiths valuation under Kilmegan One of the prior owners may have kept records
Church records exist for Clough Presbyterian Church:- Ros Davies website lists for ’Clough 1st Presbyterian Records; Linenhall Library, Belfast has records 1791-1934) -personal visits only; graveyard attached, gravestone inscriptions available UHF Vol 9; email me Ros Davies for a gravestone look-up ‘.The originals records 1791-1837 are held by Clough Non Subscribing or 2nd Presbyterian Church on Castlewellan Rd and copied by R Blackwood and this is in the Linenhall Library. That source might reveal more about Stepheson/Stevenson relatives
