hi all,
i am researching a thomas finn ( no. 1693 )for a friend, i have his attestation papers for his enlistment into the shropshire light infantry in 1880. it shows he used to be a member of the north cork militia before this. does anyone know if there would be any record of this, and if so, where i could locate it?
 thanks
steve

Hi Steve

You are probably going to be unlucky with the dates. Their musters are in Kew, but only to 1872; and probably too early for Findmypast, inspite of the date range they claim. You should check FindMyPast anyway looking for series WO96. He may only have been a member for a short time. Men would try the Militia first as it only cost £2 to purchase a discharge, compared to £20 in the Regular army. And transfer to the Regular army was free from the Militia.
