Isabella Logan nee Anderson
« on: Monday 15 June 15 19:43 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the parents of Isabella Logan who was living with her grandmother Jane Anderson in Fallagh in the 1901 census as was her brother William. Isabella(Bella) was 12 and her brother was 10.  We know her father was William Logan of Derrychrier, Dungiven but can't find any details for her mother other than her maiden name was Anderson. Why were they living with their grandmother ? ,unless both parents were deceased. Bella was my husbands great grandmother but all we know is that she died in Gransha from TB in 1922 at age 35. Any help would be appreciated.
Mary

If Isabella died in 1922 age 35 she was born c1887 rather than c1889 (not uncommon for ages to be off) but here's a link to the census entry- it's Rallagh not Fallagh:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Feeny/Rallagh/1524814

The children's mother may or may not have been Anderson (perhaps Jane had a daughter before her marriage or she married more than once. Also, the census just show the occupants of the household on that one particular night so they may have just been visiting.

However, William is in Rallagh in 1911- and granny's aged 17 years instead of 10 (perhaps hoping to get the recently introduced Old Age Pension)-

Wonder if this Pension Claim is a connection?
ANDERSON Mary Ann James ANDERSON Jane Derrychrier Banagher Kennaught Londonderry 1851 Parents married 1842, Mary 2yrs.

I've been searching for possible Logan birth records (with or without Anderson as mother's name) but no sign of the children yet.

Thanks Aghadowey, William was still living with his gran in 1911 and Bella was working as a servant in the Crawford home in Portstewart. I have searched everywhere for Bella's parents but to no avail. Bella listed her father on her marriage licence as William Logan, farmer, Derrychrier. It would be strange that she listed him if he was deceased?  I know that her brother William joined the navy in 1915 and served until 1919 but can't find him after that.

Where exactly did Isabella's marriage take place? Irish certificates do not list father's residence and a deceased father is not always indicated on the marriage certificate.

Checking out some possible leads...

Aghadowey, they were married in Ballywillan Pres. Church. I think around 1913, she married Thomas James McKinney from Aghadowey

Derrychrier on the marriage record will be where Isabella was living.

If she was illegitimate then she might have made up a father's name and occupation but that's just speculation at the moment.

Will see if I have anything about the Logans in my McKinney notes.

Just checked the baptisms for Bella's children and have a clue which ties into a lead I was following earlier but will need a few minutes to follow it through.
