Maesteg burial of John Scrivens died Dec 1933
« on: Tuesday 16 June 15 14:54 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate the grave of my Great Grandfather, John Edward Scrivens who died on 17th December 1933 in Maesteg. I am not sure if the burial was in the local cemetery or church yard?
I would very much appreciate any information anyone could provide.

He is buried in Maesteg Cemetery on 21 Dec 1933. He is listed as age 56. Grave reference also has the following person in it.
Arthur George Scrivens. Age 36. Burial date 18 Sep 1957

Thanks welshjo.
That is great information. I didn't know his son, Arthur was also buried in the same grave. I have an old photo of the grave, probably taken about 80 years ago. Hopefully it is still standing.
Do you know if anyone in the community has photographed the cemetery? I couldn't find anything on a couple of the online grave sites.
Thanks again.

Does anyone have access to plot numbers for Maesteg cemetery to enable location of John Scrivens grave?

Records give
Uncon Class A Section R   No 1355.
Records also give page and grave no as 162/9257

The men who work in the little office there are very helpful and if you have a name and date have copies of the records and can help you find the grave usually.
They can be quite hard to find on your own as the sections are quite large and I cant really say I have seen much in the way of numbering - especially in the older sections.

I visited a number of times trying to find one (on Saturdays when they are not there!) and had to resort to a visiting on a day off in the week to locate it.

Hope this helps. If you cant locate it let me know and I will have a look next time I am in the area (wont be for a couple of weeks tho - Sorry)

Thanks welshjo, that is very helpful. Halfasheep has kindly offered to attempt to locate the grave site this weekend and get a photo if it is possible. I believe halfasheep has a good knowlegde of the cemetery so hopefully will be able to find the plot with the reference you have provided.
Many thanks.
