Hi KHP

I think the O'DOWD's attending St. Patrick's in Masterton, were the children of "a Margaret and John O'DOWD" ?

Rose is possibly "Margaret Rosaline" (b. 1893) ?
(Others were Lily Annie (b. 1894), Mary Kate (b. 1890), Johanna Ellen (b. 1897) ... also a John Patrick and Thomas Michael.)

In a 1906 article re: St. Patrick's, there are O'DOWD children listed as "Rose, Lily, Nellie (poss. Johanna Ellen?), Jack (poss. John Patrick?) and Tom" (Thomas Michael?).

Edit:   Births of all the above children - registered at Masterton.

Death notice for Francis O'DOWD :

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

"New Zealand Herald" - 5 August 1918 - Deaths

O'DOWD - on 31 July [1918] at his residence Beach Road, Coromandel, d/b/h/o Margaret - aged 74*.    R.I.P.

[Note:  Burial at Thames - cemetery record gives age as 80 (as does NZ BDM).   Also, appears to share a plot with a "Mary ANDERSON - died 12/01/1932"  ??  Funeral notice says she was the mother of Mabel FREMLIN, of Brown Street, Ponsonby.  Mabel Norah ANDERSON b. 1894 to William and Mary ANDERSON. ]

For elimination :

[Seems there were two men named Francis / Frank O'DOWD at Coromandel 1860-70's.  Francis O'DOWD and his wife Fanny nee McMORROW  (m. 1865) also had children born in the district though not all births seem to have been registered.  They too had sons named Frank and Daniel (who both died in Fiji in 1908).  Frank O'DOWD snr. had a hotel (Moanataiari at Grahamstown) and later the Caledonia Hotel in Auckland.  His wife's obituary says they came to Auckland in 1875. ]

Wow - you guys have been busy since yesterday.

Yes - there seems to be two Francis O'Dowd with two families AND we don't know if Francis (and Margaret his wife) is indeed Rosanna's father yet because his daughter's birth is registered as Rose.  Also, could be the family of Francis and Fany - more O'Dowds.  mmmmmm

Tricky.
