Hi,
I wonder if you have any information on one of my ancesters.
His name is Robert Stifff and he was born in Iron Acton about 1792.
I know he had at least one daughter called Eliza, born 1831 but other than that i've hit a brick wall.
Any further info you have would be fantastic.
       Many Thanks. Paul. Bristol. England.

Hi Paul and welcome to RootsChat :)

I've got a Robert born 1788 ???, but as h is not a direct line I don't know about his children :(, what I do have, however, is his ancestry back to 1687 :o ???.  The Robert I have info on had a mother (well obviously - duh! :-[ ;D ::)) what I mean is her name was Eliza, sooo...

I will put all the info I have in a word document and then let you have it.  The info was all transcribed from the original parish records by the then ..oh, I don't know if he was the vicar or parish clerk, but it was in the early 1960's anyway.

I'll try and get it done later this evening for you!  I think there must be a coneection to my family, just haven't tracked it down yet ???

Regards

Julie :)

Hello again.
This sounds promising because his wife was named Maria, but I don't have a maiden name for her.
I think i must have got his birth year wrong by a couple of years.
I am very excited about the prospect of being able to track the family back so far.
  Many Thanks. Paul.

Hi again

Ok, hope this will make sense :-\.  You should also check out IGI. :D  There are a lot of STIFFs   ::) on there and you may be able to fill in some more details. ;D  I have more info on both John and Robert's brothers and sisters if you want it, but I probably won't be able to do it tonight :(

Anyway, hope this is of use!

Regards

Julie :)

PS: Couldn't load a word file, so have had to cut & paste - hope this works :-[ :-X ;D

Hi Julie,

Where in Gloucestershire are your Stiff's from? I have Stiff(e)s in Bristol including a Thomas who lived in Portland Square (where Robert Stiff was married, not sure that Robert fits with us though). I think the furthest I'm certain about is John Stiff and Ann Jones m Bristol 1784.

Regards, Clare
