Ballinger of Swineshead
« on: Thursday 18 June 15 10:22 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks

I'm having a little problem finding any information about a Joseph BALLINGER of Swineshead. I'm assuming that Swineshead is in Lincs as it's the only one mentioned in my AA Road Atlas.

The following summary is from Norris Museum in Cambs dated 1694

"Marriage settlement between Richard Livett of Gt Gransden, clerk, and Joseph Ballinger of Swineshead, gent., and Joseph his son, on the marriage of the said Richard Livett with Mary Ballinger, spinster, whereby Richard grants to the said Ballingers a messuage in Gt Gransden"

I can't seem to find any christening for Joseph or Mary, the children of Joseph Ballinger. No marriage or death records either - at least not in Swineshead.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks

Di

Thanks larkspur - that's a far better option & more likely to be the right one.

Much appreciated

Thanks  :D

I'll ask for this to be moved to Bedford ... or Huntingdon ... or at least somewhere more likely to find the elusive Ballinger family.

There are no Ballinger names in the Swineshead PR transcript up to 1812 - however there is one BARRINGER name & I've noticed Ballinger & Barringer are given together in some transcipts?

Burial 20 July 1711 Ann wife of Joseph Barringer

You're a star John - many thanks

I've just been in contact with Norris Museum and they have confirmed that the surname BALLINGER in the above transcript should actually be BARRINGER and that they have made a mistake in transcription ... and that accounts for the lack of Ballingers in Swineshead  :D

I didn't know Joseph Barringer's wife's name so appreciate the burial record you found John. Joseph Barringer (the elder) died in 1713/14 and his will states "gent of Swineshead" so assume he's buried in the area somewhere else.

Appreciate your help

Cheers
