Adoption

Any ideas how I trace an adopted person who was put up for adoption in about 1968? The full sister would like to trace her brother who was adopted. The brother was born in Maidstone Hospital and put up for adoption shortly after. Any help appreciated.

Hi Hussar

There are many topics on Rootschat about tracing adopted children and I'm sure others will join in here shortly.

Use the search function in the brown strap line to find some of the topics.

It's going to be almost impossible if the name after adoption is not known. There is no way of linking an entry in ther GRO birth index with that of an entry in the GRO adopted childrens index which is only available at the 7 GRO hosts sites.

Firstly, the sister should add her details to the GRO adoption contact register

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

Then also look to joining other contact registers run by adoption agencies.

Hi Peter

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

Have you put your details on the GRO adoption contact register?
