William Masterson Publication vs Rootsireland.ie
« on: Saturday 20 June 15 00:56 BST (UK) »
I'm considering purchasing a few cd's from http://www.bernieworld.net/CDs/wmpubs.htm regarding William Masterson Publications of baptisms and marriages. However, I don't know if the same records would also be found on Rootsireland.ie? Does anyone know?  Thank you.
Ireland: Mayo - O'Malley, Malley, Currigan, Lynchacan. Antrim - McAuley. Louth - Byrne. Down - Smith.

England: Lancashire - O'Malley, McCauley, Foster.

Why not wait for the Parish records to come online free from July 8th before you decide.

Granted they are only RC so may not be what your looking for and are not painstakingly consolidated into family units either, they won't even be searchable by name only by parish.

A lot of the stuff on the CDs is free online like the Census and Civil BMD index.

Thank you Sinann. My family was RC so that might be a good option for me. Are you referring to FamilySearch.org for the free Civil BMD?

Here is a few links to have a look at, all free
FamilySearch Irish Records https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list/?page=1&countryId=1927084
Irish Genealogy. Civil Records http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ ( their church records don't cover Mayo)
The National Archives have several sets of records http://www.genealogy.nationalarchives.ie/
Ireland Genealogy Projects, more records added often http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/#gsc.tab=0
And a very good How To Find site http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/
Maps parishes etc (I'm still learning my way around this one) http://www.swilson.info/index.php

That fire mentioned on William Masterson site explained http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/irish-records-burned.html

Irish records are limited in comparison to other countries and don't go back as far and while not every thing is free there is a lot that can be found for free and with research BMD certs at only €4 each what we lose in records sets we make up for with low cost or none.
Of course I haven't even touched on the pay sites, but you have to be realistic, sometimes the records simply don't exist.
Maybe those CDs are good with all the records carefully compiled, I don't know, they seem fairly cheap but explore all your options first.
Good Luck.

Coming to this late but...

You have Achill names in your profile and the Masterson book is a lor easier than other avenues for this place: records colllated in family groups with baptism and registration dates, and often godparents. If you know the place it also makes it easier to interpret the importance of baptism before registration date, and ruling out namesakes who died in infancy.

On Ancestry there are people who can scan and send you info. No payment.

The records are good for Achill
