First pic is an identification tag, (I have my grandfather's from 1914), it has Devonshire stamped onto it and his service number, usually there is his name but I can only make out Mix?. They are made of some sort of Bakelite so they didn't rot.
And in the 2nd pic, there is his metal shoulder badge of his regiment , dogtag, and what looks like a pencil. Is that one of his Star medals? Perhaps the 14/15 Star?

The star looks to be  badge rather than a medal, it has a blue centre and appears to contain the letters SSB.

The shoulder badge says New Zealand, not  the the name of a regiment.

That's what the Army called an Identity Disc. It's actually made of aluminium and was introduced in 1907 and was issued until August 1914 when a new asbestos fibre disc gradually replaced it.
