Just been doing some more research as I'm intrigued as to why it's so famous.  I discovered this bridge has quite a sad reputation  :(, but on a happier note, from the photos, it looks quite something at night all lit up.  From what I gather, it's not so much the bridge itself per se but where it is situated.  (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

It also has something to do with Concorde's last flight in 2003, but I'm not sure exactly what, so if anyone knows can you enlighten me?  I had an absolute fascination with Concorde and loved seeing it fly over.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is an iconic symbol of Bristol - as is Concorde.

A far better image is that of the SS Great Britain being shipped up the River Avon, underneath the bridge (Both were designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel).

IKB is pretty famous as a Victorian engineer - he also built the Great Western Railway!

Sadly, he died before the bridge was completed.

Actually, as a Bristolian, I am shocked you didn't know the bridge! :o :o ;D

So I'm presuming Concorde did a fly over (or under  :o) near the bridge?

Aw Wow..so sad!  :'( Whenever I was in the UK visiting my Nan, Concorde used to fly over their place at 2 and at 4.3pm.  My hubby and I used to rush outside every time like a couple of kids so we could watch it fly over. Quite magnificent.

Thanks for posting that, I've now become quite fond of Clifton Bridge.  :) :)

My brother used to work at BAe (British Aerospace), and we always told people that, as he was quite small, he was the only one able to crawl inside the nose to superglue the nose in place?!?! ;D ;D

Yes, I think he did!

He was transferred to work (sub-contract) in Saudi Arabia.
Part of the deal was a flight home in Concorde - once!

The test flights were all down the Bristol Channel and, as we lived on the Channel we had good viewings. ;D
