looking for Thomas & Catherine Wood
« on: Wednesday 24 June 15 16:33 BST (UK) »
Hi, my gg Aunt Rose Austin nee Warren b Jun qtr 1874 in Stratton St Margaret, Swindon, unofficially adopted 4 children. The children's parents were Constance Ivy Woods & William E Worthy m sep 1929 Bournemouth. Constance father was Thomas Woods born Dec qtr 1865 Swindon, Police officer who married Catherine surname unknown.
My gg Aunt adopted these children & lived in Bournemouth with them & possibly the parents too (family legend). As my gg aunt was born in Swindon & Thomas Woods also lived in Swindon, I believe there could be a connection.
Rose's mother was Emma (Hazell formely Warren nee Heath or Frampton) born c1797.

I have had research done recently 'completely & utterly muddled' under Wiltshire.

I would like to find the marriage  of  Thomas & Catherine, & Catherine's surname. Also parents names.

My Mother is 86 & is wanting to find if there is a connection between her gt Aunt Rose & the children she adopted. Regards Trish

Hello Trish,

I am feeling a bit 'muddled' too.  :)

You have Aunt Rose born 1874 and her mother b 1797  ???

I have seen a tree which has Constance born 1909, Amble and her father born 1873, Swindon. You have  him 1865 - is that right?

A possibility for her birth - if correct (and I think it is)  - a copy of her birth cert will give you Catherine's maiden name

I can't see Thomas Woods apart from 1911 index.

A birth certificate would help you find Catherine's name.

Where do you have Thomas born 1865?

You seem to have the 1911 entry so have you found a birth registration for the 14yr old son under Woods or a marriage within the details given for number of years married?

There is then a 6yr gap to the next child.  Thomas/Catherine and the children were all born in different counties.

Catherine may have been previously married - that is why you need to invest in a copy of the birth cert

There is an 1897 marriage in Middlesborough on freebmd to bear in mind when you get the birth cert
